If memory serves, DST was originally conceived to provide more daylight hours for farming. Now it's more of a power saver, as in more daylight hours, less time with the lights on. At any rate, the times adjust at 2am, way before the sun rises.

|What I don't get is why some states like the sun coming up at 5:30 when most people are still asleep. The whole purpose of DST is so there'll be more sunlight during the time when we're actually awake.|

Best part is I live in a state that doesn't observe Daylight Savings Time. And my alarm clock has a 'convenient' feature, that it automatically reset for DST. So I got woke up at 6am which was really 5am. Dammit.
